Mandy

Mandy suffered cerebral palsy from birth. She is confined to a wheelchair and is non-verbal. But, with the help of technology she completes her education at the Special School on the Gold Coast and goes on to take training in information technology, developing skills that are in demand.
She moves to Sydney where she takes a position with Microsoft and develops a competence in cybersecurity protection. She helps convict two hackers which draws attention from the national news services. She is head-hunted by a federal government agency and moves to Canberra.
Mandy demonstrates it’s not our disabilities that define us; it’s our ability to overcome adversity, our courage to take advantage of opportunities and our willingness to make the world a better place that people will remember.”

Anything’s Possible

Where the protagonists build a better world by taking advantage of the opportunities that arise

My first novella was built on three experiences:
● a delightful trip to Mexico where I was introduced to the cenotes of the Yucatan Peninsula, large underground ponds eroded out the limestone
● a contract at the power company in St Louis Missouri where I experienced the joys of properly smoked meat
● a visit to New York City during which I began to understand the Big Apple

My second novella was totally different. Drawing on my experience as a foster parent, and my penchant for helping young people to develop into upstanding citizens. The story is centred around a boy who is encouraged to follow his passion and, with the help of his girlfriend, build a valuable business in recycling solar panels. The two of them demonstrate that, for a switched-on couple, ‘the whole is a lot more than the sum of the parts’.

The third novella brings together these two different stories with the four protagonists achieving success with a global impact. The story draws on my experience living in Hong Kong and Singapore during which I learnt about the Chinese psyche and built an appreciation of respecting other cultures.
Samantha is really the heroine of this story, with the extraordinary steps she takes for her imprisoned husband.
One reader called her ‘Super Sam’.

But wait – there’s more. I then assembled these three stories into a book that demonstrates Anything’s Possible.
A growing proportion of society has no ambition; they don’t know what they are capable of achieving, they have never received an encouraging word and, while their T-shirt might say “Girls Can Do Anything”, they don’t know where to start.
‘Anything’s Possible’ is a three-part book in which the protagonists exploit the opportunities that arise while maintaining a social conscience; they work to build a better world for us all. The book does not rely on complex ‘who-done-it’ intrigue, it has no incredible fantasy or dystopian devastation, it has precious-little sex and no violence. It provides a completely believable narrative that demonstrates all we need to do is to encourage our children to have the courage walk through the doors that open up to them.
